Challenge Accepted- Master Bedroom
Hi guys. This week we are doing the master bedroom challenge. If you have stuff shoved under the bed and clothes laying all around the room this challenge is perfect for you. This space is supposed to be your sanctuary, the place where you relax and enjoy the most. Everyday you come into this room eager to unwind and relax from a hectic day, whether you were all ay at work or driving the kids around all over town. If you don't get back home to a clean and organized room, you are probably not enjoying your time in your haven.
When you start out this challenge, keep in mind two things. One is that the closet is not the bedroom. This is a totally different space with a challenge of its own. We´ll do this one later. And the other thing to keep in mind is that less is more. You really don't need a lot of thing hanging around your room. Let's get started.
Make sure you are prepared. Have some kind of bins or boxes to separate and label- Keep, Trash, Donate, Clothes (clothes that belong in your closet), other Rooms.
Clean slate. Start with an area and empty it out completely. This can be your nightstand, or dresser, or media stand. Everything under your bed should be taken out. Take everything out of your dresser. Carefully consider what stays and would should be tossed out. Be honest with yourself, do you really use that t-shirt you got that still hasn't even been worn? Whatever is left should be folded into what I like to call the Three Way Fold. The nightstands can sometimes be mistaken with the junk drawer, WRONG. The junk drawer has a whole different place of its own, and its definitely not in your room. Take everything out, clean, and only put back the necessities. I highly recommend using drawer dividers for the little things we like to have at hand. The top of the dresser is a very tempting spot to basically put anything that your hand touches. Clear it out completely, wipe it down, and separate into the baskets you labeled. Remember you want clean areas and only keep what you use in your room.
Take this time to completely clean the room. Take the time to vacuum, dust thoroughly, clean windows, baseboards, picture frames, sweep, and mop. You should also wash the bed linens, bed skirts and curtains, and make sure you iron them. There is nothing like lying in a bed with the linens just ironed.
Now is the time to organize. You can use bins and baskets to place like items together around the room. If everything has a place where it belongs, it is more likely it finds its place back again. If everything has a designated space you will find yourself having to organize less and just focus on maintenance. Make sure to teach anyone who lives with you your system.
Best part of all, ENJOY! You earned it. Light a candle, or spray linen mist and relax in your room. Waking up to a clutter free bedroom makes you have a clutter free mind. Trust me.
Happy Organizing!
xoxo
